{"id":637,"date":"2010-08-27T12:33:19","date_gmt":"2010-08-27T16:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.homegrownonahobbyfarm.com\/?p=637"},"modified":"2011-11-15T18:02:39","modified_gmt":"2011-11-15T23:02:39","slug":"ram-swap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.homegrownonahobbyfarm.com\/index.php\/2010\/08\/ram-swap\/","title":{"rendered":"Ram Swap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week was special for us; we hosted a \u201cram swap\u201d!<\/p>\n<p>Our dear friend, Linda Cummings (<a href=\"http:\/\/guitner.blogspot.com\/\"><strong>http:\/\/guitner.blogspot.com\/<\/strong><\/a>) from whom we purchased our first Navajo-Churro ewe and ewe-lambs came to our place to meet Shelly Gaines, a breeder from New York. They were to exchange ram-lambs (these li&#8217;l guys were born this past Spring). The swap occurred at our place\u2014sort of a halfway point.<\/p>\n<p>Now, these gals are pretty savvy when it comes to the breed. I sure learned a lot from them, such as: \u201cclean\u201d legs, face and belly are desirable (not \u201cwooly\u201d). And as much as we all love the four horns the Churro can possess, ready yourself for some bloody heads when they, inevitably, square off. Of course, the fleeces are truly important too; many breeders are picky&#8230;and rightfully so. When it comes time to market your wool, spinners seek out the best. It pays to begin to concern yourself with many of these traits at breeding time.<\/p>\n<p>After the necessary paperwork was exchanged, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-638 alignleft\" title=\"Ottawa\" src=\"https:\/\/www.homegrownonahobbyfarm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ottawa.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/>\u201cOttawa\u201d, the stunning white ram-lamb went home with Shelly to New York and handsome little \u201cNewman\u201d made the trek back to Linda&#8217;s Shepherd&#8217;s Loft in Pennsylvania.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-641 alignnone\" title=\"Newman\" src=\"https:\/\/www.homegrownonahobbyfarm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Newman.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll have to keep those guys in mind for the future (wink)&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week was special for us; we hosted a \u201cram swap\u201d!
